Even if Lada may be a well-known car brand, its sales have dropped by 40% this year. So, Lada carmaker, called Avtovaz, which is the Russia’s largest carmaker, is to cut up to 27.600 jobs. It means that more than the quarter of the people working there won’t have a job anymore. Actually just before the financial crisis, Russia had the fastest growing car market in Europe.
Russian tower plans cause alarm
The plan to build the Okhta Tower in St Petersburg is criticised. Unesco, has called on Russia to stop the building of this 400m skyscraper in the city centre. In fact, this tower will be placed over the city’s Neva river and surrounding low-level buildings. Unesco said Okhta business centre tower would “damage the image of Russia”. It is a pity because this project would bring more jobs and build projects to the city.
No, I can’t take this and not this one… Yes, we know that everyone is fed up with the current restriction on taking liquids onto flights. But now a British firm has created a scanner which uses an X-ray. This one is able to distinguish between harmless liquids, such as water, and potential explosives. The new scanner can make the difference between two liquids even when they look the same to the human eye. If someone was trying to carry a liquid which looked very similar to say water, and which weighed much the same, but was very different in nature, the new machine would precisely recognise it. So with this new system, people don’t have to open their bags anymore.
